The golfing week started last Wednesday with a stableford competition. Rick Christie won the day with a score of 43 points from Wayne ‘Tweet’ Josephson on 40 while third place went to Tom Fox with 38.
Nearest the pins went to Jeff Smith on the third, Richard Maple on the eighth and Tom Fox on the fifteenth.
On Saturday the golfing public turned out in force to hold a fundraiser for Jamie Rainbow.
Twenty-four teams of three played an ambrose competition with the winning combination of Peter and Tess Lloyd and Charlie Kenny scoring a nett 56 1/6.
Colin and Narelle Green and Al Sharpe came in second with 57 1/3 and third place went to Michael and Jacob Ryan and Gary Dunn on 59 1/6.
The best ladies team was Chrissy Grammar, Janine Ryan and Geraldine Francisco with 66 1/6 and the best mixed team was Bob and Ruth Baker and Jeb Bishop on 62 1/2.
Nearest the pins went to ‘Tweet’ on the third, Barb Barklimore on the seventh, Al Sharpe on the eighth and Chrissy Grammar on the fifteenth.
Men’s longest drive went to Barry Schaeffer while Chrissy Grammar took the longest drive for the women.
Sunday saw the third round of the Captain’s Trophy.
First prize went to the ever-improving junior, Jeb Bishop, who scored his first sub-80 round with 76 off the stick (nett 61). Young Jeb has put a tremendous amount of effort into his game in recent times and has placed in the last seven consecutive events he has entered.
His efforts on Sunday will see another couple of shots removed from his handicap and it won’t be long before he enters the ranks of A Grade if this rate of improvement can be maintained.
Bruce Mitchell took second on 66 on a count back from Tom Fox third. Fourth place went to Troy Hartmann on 68 from China Brien on 69.
Nearest the pins went to Bruce Mitchell on the third, Barry Hay on the seventh, Troy Hartmann on the eighth and Cliff Wyllie on the eleventh and fifteenth.
Local golf will see the annual staging of the 4 Ball Best Ball Whyte Hall Cup on Saturday followed by a Major Trophy Day par event Sunday.
Wednesday May 21 will see a stroke event. Some golfers will be travelling to Nyngan on Saturday for the second holding of the Tritton Mine Golf Challenge.
The Western Junior Classic will be held in Dubbo on Sunday.
